Lightning strikes can cause significant damage as they release large amounts of electrical energy in the areas that they hit. In fact, lightning can heat the air in its path to almost five times hotter than the sun’s surface, making its effects both deadly and dangerous.

The damage from a lightning strike can be significant, and in some cases catastrophic, affecting buildings, structures, plant and equipment, and overhead lines. This has widespread effects, from loss of human life, to loss of services (communication and power supply), to economic loss and irreparable damage to important and / or historic buildings.

Asset protection is becoming an ever-increasing concern within the industry, and therefore at PSE 2 Consulting we are often asked to mitigate the severe and significant risk that lightning poses.

Lightning Protection System Design Services

PSE 2 Consulting offer a wide variety of lightning protection services, including carrying out in depth risk assessments on any asset, building or industrial site, including places such as office blocks, buildings of cultural value, power stations, small scale generation sites (e.g. STOR site, CHP) or substations.

In addition, our team can provide Lightning Protection System (LPS) designs, based on the rolling sphere, protection angle or mesh method in accordance with both BS EN/IEC 62305 and IEEE-998, including LPS design of outdoor substations.
